At the end of the school year at Beth Shields Middle School, the taunting became so bad that Hope Witsell’s friends surrounded her between classes. They escorted her down hallways like human shields, fending off insults such as “whore” and “slut.”
“She didn’t blame it on anybody,” said Rebecca Knowles, 14. “She realized it was her fault for sending them in the first place.
Hope Witsell was punished severely for taking the photograph. She was grounded for the summer. She was suspended from the first week of school. She lost her position as student adviser.

Steps to prevent your child from sexting

1. Take an inventory. Ask your children to show you all of the gadgets in the house that can take or store photos or videos. These can include cell phones, Webcams, video game consoles and iPods.
2. Ask them to show you images they have stored. Promise you won't hit the roof if you find something bad — then keep your word.
3. Have a talk.
This should be a conversation, not a lecture. Be sure to mention a range of unintended consequences, which could include criminal charges that would jeopardize admission to college.
4. Watch what you buy.
Think twice before purchasing devices that can take or send images. Drop the image-sending capability from your child's cell phone service.

Varna om "criminal charges"? För att ta bilder på sig själv? Japp.
